Sister city artists’ work on display
Sister city artists' work on display
24 September 2014
Paintings by a talented group of artists from one of Taupo's sister cities will be on display at Taupo Museum from Saturday.
There will be 20 paintings by artists from Suzhou, China, on display for Water Town Suzhou', which features traditional Chinese ink paintings on scrolls. The artists behind the exhibition are from the Suzhou Disabled Persons Federation.
Suzhou became Taupo's sister city in 2008 and is located in the lower reaches of China's Yangtze province on the shores of Lake Taihu. The relationship between Taupo and Suzhou has developed with civic exchange trips, exhibitions and the sharing of knowledge and skills.
Business development manager Chloe Walker said hosting the Water Town Suzhou exhibition was a great way to strengthen the relationship between the two towns.
It's great to be able to celebrate six years of friendship with Suzhou with this beautiful display of art work, she said. China is our largest trading partner and an important part of Taupo's economy, particularly in dairy, forestry and tourism. Exhibitions like this continue the strong relationship we have with Suzhou and China itself.
A delegation from Suzhou including the Vice Director of Suzhou Disabled Persons Federation will visit Taupo and the exhibition in October.
The exhibition is on from Saturday to October 20 in Taupo Museum's Niven Room. The museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is free to children and Taupo District residents with proof of address.
