Explore our history with libraries' holiday programme
It's moa madness at Taupō District Libraries and Taupō Museum these school holidays, with a range of activities focussing on our extinct giant bird.
The programme is running for the duration of the holidays excluding public holidays. Activities include making a moa mask, checking out the museum's moa skeleton, creating a moa collage and moa story time for the little ones. Events will be held at Turangi and Taupō libraries and will also feature a Lego competition, arts and crafts and a games day.
All activities at the libraries are free and children do not need to register.
Taupō Events Centre is also running its school holiday programme, starting Tuesday, April 22. Taupō District Council's community development officer Rose Prisk said the programme was packed full of fun educational and physical activities including visits to AC Baths, Wairakei Terraces and Spa Thermal Park, cooking time in the kitchen, gymnastics and mountainbiking.
"We hope the kids taking part are as excited as we are about the programme these holidays - it's going to be action packed," she said. "The programme caters to children from five to 13 year olds and is separated into age groups so there are activities to suit everyone."
