Taupo Framed
30 November 2015
Think the Taupo District is so breathtakingly beautiful that you'd love to frame it and take it home with you? Now there's a way to do it!
The Taupo Framed exhibition is coming to Taupo Museum on December 5, and it will contain more than 80 original Taupo-themed artworks, all in white frames.
Work on the exhibition started earlier this year, with Taupo Museum selling 100 frames to 100 amateur and professional artists from around the district. The museum is expecting at least 80 to be returned and on display for the exhibition when it opens on Saturday.
Exhibitions officer Kerence Stephen said the frames contain a variety of artwork within them - from pumice carving to paintings, prints, photography, mixed media and pastels. They depict all sorts of iconic and interesting Taupō themed landscapes, wildlife such as prawns, trout and birds, and more, she said. It's quite a fantastic selection and there is definitely something for everyone who wants to take a piece of Taupō home with them.
All the framed artwork on display is for sale, and many are under $100. Unlike a regular exhibition where buyers must leave their purchased works at the gallery until the exhibition has finished, in this case they can take away what they buy at the time. The frames will be replaced with a colour copy photograph of the work so all visiting the gallery can see the full range.
These are going to make excellent Christmas gifts and souvenirs, Ms Stephen said. They are all reasonably priced so we encourage anyone interested to get in quick and see what's available.
The exhibition opens December 5 and runs until February 1. The museum is open seven days from 10am to 4.30pm. Entry is free to children and Taupo District residents with proof of address.
The Taupo Framed exhibition is a fundraiser for The Friends of the Taupo Museum.
