Time to recognise volunteer organisations
4 June 2015
Do you know of a volunteer community organisation that could use some recognition? The Trustpower Community Awards are now open!
The awards recognise volunteer organisations in both the Taupo District and nationally and this year celebrate their 21st anniversary.
Nominees can be entered into five categories: heritage and environment, health and wellbeing, arts and culture, sport and leisure and education and child/youth development.
Previous winners of the Supreme Award include the Tauhara Community Support Initiative, the Taupo Model Railway Club. Other winners and runners-up have included Taupo Women's Institute, Taupo Mountain Bike Club, Taupo Citizens Silver Band, Victim Support, Mangakino District Returned Services Association, Kiwanis Club of Taupo and Kuratau Community and School Hall.
Taupo District Council is helping to run the awards, which are supported by The Hits Taupo. Trustpower community relations representative Kathlene Cook said the awards were a fantastic opportunity to talk about the volunteer organisations that make the community a great place to live.
Hundreds of people in the Taupo District dedicate hours of service to volunteering for worthy causes and we all benefit from that, she said. This is an opportunity to recognise them for their efforts and give them a shot at winning an award.
The awards are one of 26 regional awards held around the country. The regional awards for Taupo and then the national final will be held later in the year.
To nominate a community volunteer group or find out more, visit one of the council's service centres, go online to www.trustpower.co.nz/communityawards or search for Trustpower Community on Facebook.
Entries for the 2015 Trustpower Taupo District Community Awards close on Friday 17 July 2015.
