Tokaanu sewer main to be replaced
23 October 2015
Tokaanu's bridge on State Highway 41 will be reduced to one lane on Wednesday and Thursday. The closure is to allow the replacement of two sections of a sewer main in the town.
The lane has to close to allow Taupo District Council contractors Fulton Hogan to access the main, which runs under the bridge.
The council prioritised the work because of the risk of recurring problems with the pipes. There were two breaks in the line last month along State Highway 41 and a few metres in each section will be replaced. The sewerage system in Tokaanu will not be affected by the work, but there may be minor traffic delays.
Infrastructure manager Denis Lewis hoped the work would be completed quickly with little impact on residents and motorists. We need to get this work done quickly to prevent any future breaks and protect our environment, he said. It's important for Tokaanu to have a reliable and safe sewerage system.
