Water mains replacement
14 August 2015
Work on two water mains being replaced in Taupo is nearly complete.
The main that runs down Rifle Range Road from Tamamutu Street to Lake Terrace has been replaced due to damage and leaking water pipes.
It is about 750 metres long and had burst several times in the months leading up to its replacement.
Contractors are making the final connections between the main and properties this week.
A second main that runs along Lake Terrace from Rifle Range Road to Mere has also been replaced. The main was originally marked for replacement next year, but frequent breaks prompted the council to bring the project forward to ensure a steady water supply for residents and businesses.
Contractors have now finished laying the pipe in the final section and are now resurfacing affected areas of the road with asphalt.
The water main being replaced in Mangakino is also progressing well. The changeover to the new main was made in late July and final touches are being completed.
Work on all three projects is expected to be finished by the end of August.
