Water restrictions lifted
4 February 2015
Water restrictions have been lifted in the Taupo District.
Restrictions were introduced in January following an extended period of dry weather and a dramatic increase in water use. While there was the usual influx of visitors over the summer holiday period, there was also increased demand from people irrigating their lawns and gardens.
Infrastructure manager Denis Lewis said the rain over the past week had been a welcome relief and water use had nearly halved in the past few days. However, we still need to use water wisely as summer is not over yet. he said. Thank you to everyone who limited their water usage over the past few weeks.
At the peak of demand, the Lake Terrace water treatment plant was treating over 20,000 cubic metres of water per day. Yesterday this had dropped to just under 11,000 cubic metres.
