Weekend of events in Taupo
Are you ready for a weekend of music, motorsport and more? Then Taupo is the place to be!
The annual Taupo Summer Concert is on Saturday at the Taupo amphitheatre, featuring Bonnie Tyler, the Alan Parsons Live Project and Icehouse.
The concert is something many music enthusiasts look forward to each year and this year's show had sold out before the end of 2016.
District events manager Steve Giles said the Taupo District was already swelling with visitors gearing up for a fantastic gig.
"We are thrilled to be able to host this fantastic concert for another year as it just keeps on getting better."
Also on this weekend is the celebration of the historic 50th anniversary of the world championship title of New Zealand's only Grand Prix World Champion, the late Denny Hulme in 1967.
Held at the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park over two days, the event will feature a field of Formula One cars from the 60s and 70s and historic touring cars from the 80s and 90s.
"This is a must for anyone interested in motorsport and the history of Formula 1," Steve said. "It's such a privilege for us to be able to host such an important historical event and we can't wait."
But that's not all. We also have Thunder on the Great Lake returning with the first round of the 2017 New Zealand Offshore Powerboat Championship. Boats will be on display from Friday at Northcroft Reserve and all the action will be out on Lake Taupo from 12.30pm Sunday.
We're looking forward to an action-packed weekend!
