Spark upgrading infrastructure on Great Lake Centre
New Spark infrastructure will be installed on the Great Lake Centre to allow the telecommunications company to meet current demand.
Spark currently has a licence for infrastructure atop the centre and the work will involve replacing old with new. Taupō District Council approved the upgrade to the current infrastructure at their March meeting.
Head of operations Kevin Strongman said work would consist of two antennas and some supporting equipment fixed to the external face of the building at its rear.
“It will have a different design to the existing infrastructure but will have a minimal effect on the aesthetics of the Great Lake Centre,’ he said. “It is necessary for Spark to maintain adequate network coverage for the CBD and we are happy to work with them.”
The work is scheduled to be carried out in June.
