The Turangi Turtle Pools has a new aqua wall and local kids are loving it.
The climbing wall was purchased for $39,000 after the Turangi Tongariro Community Board submitted to the council’s Long-term Plan asking for more play equipment at the pools. Councillors agreed to funding and a climbing wall was chosen as it was a unique piece of equipment that would suit a variety of age groups.
The aqua wall stands about 3.5 metres above the water and sits on the edge of the deep pool. It is accessible from the water and life guards are on hand when it is in use.
Business and operations manager Scott Attenborough said that the wall was a great addition to the facility and was already receiving very positive feedback.
“There are only a handful of these in the country so it is a real point of difference for the Turtle Pools. We all know how much kids love jumping into water, so it’s great to have the aqua wall as they can do it in a safer environment and with the life guards on hand. It’s been very popular since it was installed and it’s going to be a real asset.”
