An extensive programme of water and wastewater pipe renewals in Turangi and Tokaanu is nearing completion.
The programme has seen 4.5 kilometres of water mains renewed in Turangi, with connections to individual properties currently underway and expected to be completed by September. In Tokaanu work has been carried out on the wastewater system, including the replacement of the wastewater rising main and 3.5 kilometres of waste water pipes.
Head of operations Kevin Strongman said the renewal programme that began in 2018 had a budget of $3.2 million and represented a valuable upgrade to Turangi and Tokaanu’s infrastructure.
“Like in many places throughout our district, existing infrastructure that was built in the 1950s is reaching the end of its useful life and needs replacing. The work we’ve carried out in Turangi will mean the water and wastewater schemes there are much more resilient and should be good to go for many years to come,” he said.
