Sewer line inspections making great progress
The ongoing sewer line inspection programme, which gives us a better understanding of the overall condition of the network and helps highlight any possible future blockages, is making great progress.
Network operations engineer Jono Paul says the team has shifted operations to Kinloch and Omori.
“Thanks to some central government funding for shovel-ready infrastructure projects, we’ve been able to expand this programme from the initial scope of work that included around 200km of sewer pipes. The inspection programme utilises a sewer line rapid assessment tool (SLRAT) to check the condition of sewer pipes with ultrasonic sound.
“We have now assessed the condition of over 330km of pipes and 4000 access points, successfully identifying numerous locations where proactive maintenance is required. This can include water jetting to clean the pipes, or the removal of obstructions,” said Mr Paul.
“This has been a sizeable piece of work, but it makes our system much more resilient and is part of our ongoing efforts to protect our waterways.”
