With tree felling and stump grinding on Hingaia Street completed by local contractors PKV, it's now time for our Downer team to step in and start pouring new kerbing and channelling.
The government-funded project to upgrade footpaths and kerbing damaged by trees is progressing well and Downer Project Manager Brad McKenzie says the team are hitting their stride with Package 1 of the project.
"We had quite a few new hires join us on this project from the local community," Brad says. "Four have been through our Downer Road Ready programme to get them prepared for the civil industry.”
“We'll be pouring the new kerbs and channels in Harata/Paehoro Street in the coming weeks before moving operations to Hingaia, Mihipeka, and Huriana Streets, and the feedback we are getting from residents has been really positive. We'd like to thank everyone for their patience and for bearing with us as we progress through revitalising Turangi Township."
The trees removed as part of the Turangi Street Revitalisation Project will be replaced in a replanting programme, so if you'd like to have your say on what tree species you want to see in Turangi streets then head over to our community survey, or pop in and see the team at the Turangi Customer Service & i-SITE Visitor Information Centre.
