Dogs to be on leads at Besley Park
The Taupō District Council Control of Dogs Bylaw 2021 has been updated following a review period, public consultation and consideration of the feedback.
Following a deliberations session at a Council meeting this week a resolution was unanimously passed that Besley Park be excluded from the list of off-lead dog exercise areas.
Dog owners don’t miss the opportunity to exercise their dogs off-leash however, with the stormwater gully within the boundary between Acacia Bay Road and Reeves Road being now an assigned dog exercise area.
Community consultation has had a three-fold approach, including initial consultation through an on-line survey in September-October last year and a submission period which occurred in January-February. The last opportunity to provide feedback was undertaken in July-August.
All periods of consultation invited comments around changes to the bylaw, including the designation of Besley Park as an off-lead dog exercise area, given the close proximity of the playground, with the option of the stormwater gully between Acacia Bay Road and Reeves Road suggested as a replacement option.
Council has met regularly to discuss the feedback received and agreed to the changes with safety for all park users seen as a high priority.
