Taupō Airport upgrade flying ahead
Great progress has been made on the Taupō Airport carpark upgrade, with the new seal in place and line marking complete.
Project manager Pernille Fletcher said the next work would be installing street art and lighting to make for a safer environment for those using the carpark in the darker, winter months. Planting would also be carried out in the green spaces around the carpark.
“Stage two of the upgrade will be getting underway from July,” Pernille said. “This will see work begin on the new pick up/drop off area, rental car parks, and the bus zone. Work has also been progressing well on the new terminal building, with the foundation completed and the steel superstructure and timber framing progressing really well.
“Work halted on the project over the busy holiday period to allow for the influx of visitors, but things are now fully back up to speed and it’s great to see the terminal building starting to take shape. We are beginning to get an idea of the scale of the new building, which will be nearly twice as large as the existing terminal, and the more unique aspects of the build that reflect our district will also be taking shape soon. Watch this space, we’ll keep you posted on all the exciting changes.”
With the site work ongoing, airport users are asked to allow extra time when catching flights, and also to use caution around the work site at all times.
