Taupō District Council would like to give a friendly reminder to people that the new carparks on Tongariro Street, created through the Taupō Towncentre Transformation Project, are for shorter-term use rather than all-day parking.
These spots were intentionally provided to allow better access for shopping and dining and as such are limited to 60 or 90 minutes.
Council environmental services manager Jessica Sparks said the council wanted to remind people parking for work that they should instead be using all-day parking spots such as the ones found at:
- te Heuheu St carpark (next to BP) - about 145 spaces
- Taniwha St (next to Rebel Sport) - about 73 spaces
- Robert St (next to Burger King) - about 60 spaces
- Tūwharetoa St (next to Farmers and Central Motor Group) - about 90 spaces.
“Enforcement is sometimes necessary to keep parking available for everyone, so if you’re going to overstay, you may well find a ticket on your windscreen,” she said.
