With the new Tītīraupenga Street/Lake Terrace intersection up and running and the new road layout on Tongariro Street nearing completion, the focus of the Taupō Town Centre Transformation is now shifting to the final and most exciting phase.
Contractor Camex Civil, who have been doing the hard yards on Tongariro Street, are being joined by Downer on the work around Roberts Street that will see a new more people-friendly environment that makes the most of our fantastic lake front.
Council chief executive Gareth Green said both contractors had done sterling work throughout the Town Centre Transformation and it was great to have them both on board for the most dramatic part of the project.
“The work here is going to give us a world-class waterfront,” Mr Green said, “and we’re putting all possible resources into it. So many people have done a huge amount of work on this project so far, and all that enabling work has been to get us to this point where we can start on the really exciting part.
“The transformation here will better connect people to our beautiful lake environment and help to keep our town pedestrian friendly and vibrant and it’s going to be a real focus for our town. We know it’s going to be inconvenient while the construction is underway, but good things really are coming here!”
