Access to swimming pools is now easier than ever for disabled people within our community, thanks to the introduction of mobile pool hoists at the AC Baths and Tūrangi Turtle Pools.
The pool hoist allows a disabled person to have access to the swimming pool without the need for manual lifting from a carer, or the use of a ramp.
There is one hoist at each facility, which staff can move around the complex and anchor alongside any of the pools, even a private pool at the AC Baths.
Taupō District Council lifeguard operations team lead Suzanne Watson says she is thrilled that the team can now offer this service to the community.
“The mobile hoists are a great addition to our pool complexes.
“Our swimming pools are a great place for people to spend their time, they provide a fun and safe environment that encourages physical activity and wellbeing.
“Swimming should be accessible to all, and I’m so pleased that we can now provide pool access to everyone in our community.”
The hoist caters for both children and adults (up to 200kg in Taupō and 150kg in Tūrangi), and can be used with a floating sling, plastic seat, or wet wheelchair.
