On Saturday 31 December 2022, Taupō District Council in partnership with Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board and Blue Light Taupō will be holding its annual New Year’s Eve Big Bang Fireworks Display.
The event runs from 6pm to midnight on Northcroft Reserve with family friendly activities - including face painting, chalk drawing and lawn games - and entertainment, food vendors, live music and fireworks displays.

- 7pm – Community entertainment starts
- 8pm – Music from ‘The DL’
- 9pm – Music from ‘Maepijo’
- 10pm – Twilight Mini Bang Fireworks
- 10.15pm – Music from ‘DJ Yogi’
- Midnight - The Big Bang Fireworks
Road closures
There will be a traffic management plan in place throughout the event to keep everybody safe. The following road closures, as indicated on the map, will be in place from 4pm Saturday 31 December to 1am Sunday 1 January:
🚫 Lake Terrace - Kaimanawa Street to Tītīraupenga Street
🚫 Kaimanawa Street - Lake Terrace to Northcroft Street (controlled access for electric vehicles)
🚫 Kaimanawa Street (southbound lane) - Roberts Street to Northcroft Street
🚫 Tītīraupenga Street (southbound lane) – Northcroft Street to Lake Terrace
🚫 Northcroft Street (westbound lane) – Kaimanawa Street to Tītīraupenga Street
Please note that parking on Lake Terrace between Kaimanawa Street to Tītīraupenga Street, and around Northcroft Reserve will be unavailable from the earlier time of 6am Saturday 31 December to 1am Sunday 1 January.
