Taupō District Libraries are helping to spread words of encouragement and love to the most vulnerable of those affected by Cyclone Gabrielle, the children.
Local Taupō District children are being encouraged to write letters of love, friendship, and support to children in storm damaged areas. The letters can be dropped off to collection boxes in any of our Taupō District Libraries from Monday 27 February, where they will be collected and distributed through aid agencies.
Children’s letters can include information on themselves, their words of encouragement and hope, as well as drawings and cards. The letters should be left in an open envelope with the child’s name and age on the front. The Hope in an Envelope team will add a special treat and make sure the letters are sent to an age and gender appropriate child.
Hope in an Envelope organiser Laura Stamoreanu says ‘Letters are a powerful tool of encouragement. The children can read the messages of love and support again and again when they feel alone.’
Copies of the letters and drawings will also be used as a display in the libraries for the rest of the community to read and enjoy.
