Coffee catch-ups with the Mayor and acting chief executive

Taupō District Council's Mayor and acting chief executive are inviting members of the public to join them for a hot drink and a catch-up at Fine Fettle Cafe next week.

Taupō District Mayor David Trewavas says the coffee catch-ups with himself and acting chief executive Julie Gardyne have been organised to better engage with the local community.

"Come and join us for a coffee, even if it's just to say hello, I'm looking forward to it," he says.

"As a council it is really important that we have a close relationship with the community and a feel for what people want, what issues they are concerned about and what they expect from their community. Communication must go both ways.

"We are well aware that everyone communicates in different ways, and that not everybody is on Facebook or reading the local paper, so these events are just another tool for community engagement."

The first Coffee with the Mayor event is from 10.30am to 11.30am at Fine Fettle Café on Wednesday 24 May.

More coffee catch-ups are planned around the district on the following dates (all events start at 10.30am):

• Ata's Bar & Eatery, Mangakino – Wednesday 14 June
• Hydro Eatery, Tūrangi – Wednesday 19 July
• Café Baku, Taupō – Wednesday 30 August
• Piccolo Cafe, Taupō – Wednesday 18 October
