A big Taupō District welcome to everybody coming to town for the Taupō Marathon this Saturday 5 August. It’s true, the views from the Taupō lakefront simply can’t be beat, and this weekend’s course is built to showcase them at their best!
To help keep everybody safe during the event there will temporary traffic control measures and speed restrictions in place between 7am to 3pm on Saturday 5 August:
🚫 Access to the Taupō Marina is via a one-way traffic system on Redoubt Street from Tongariro Street. A stop/go system will be in place to allow people to cross from the registration point to the race start. This will be removed once the last race has started around 10am.Traffic will be able to exit the Taupō Marina via Ferry Road onto Tongariro Street.
🚫 The junction of Ferry Road and Tongariro street will be closed to vehicles entering the Taupō Marina and will reopen once the last runner is through around 3pm.
🚫 The cycle lane on Tongariro Street will be closed during the event.
🚫 The bus stop on Tongariro Street will be temporarily relocated to Pāora Hapi Street for bus services between 7am to 3pm.
🚫 The northbound lane of Lake Terrace from Roberts Street to Mere Road will be closed. This means that there will be no right turn available from Kaimanawa Street, Rifle Range Road, Tui Street, Huia Street and Pataka Road onto Lake Terrace. The southbound lane remains open. Please access town from the south via Mere Road.
🚫Riverside Park dump station will be closed between 7am to 10am. Please use the alternative site located at Stag Park, Napier Road.
