New roundabout on Wairākei Drive is now fully open
We’d like to thank the daily commuters and businesses in the area for their patience while the project has been underway.
Camex Civil and their team have been putting in the hard mahi and we’re so grateful to them for making this intersection much safer.
There’s more to it than putting a circle in the middle of a road. In fact the roundabout is only the top third of the work! What you don’t see, is the team:
🚧 Moving underground power and fibre.
🚧 Moving power poles.
🚧 Installing new cabling for streetlighting and new storm water pipes.
🚧 Reshaping the intersection to make sure stormwater flows where it’s supposed to.
🚧 Importing and compacting all the materials under the asphalt.
🚧 Repairing damage to the site from the cars that somehow missed all of the cones, signs, and lights!
All of the above allowed us to put in asphalt, kerbs, and streetlights, and of course the roundabout itself.
The new layout provides better access for locals and visitors, and improves safety for everyone.
