Get ready to rock with the Taupō Summer Concert this Saturday!
A warm welcome to the bands, fans, and everyone attending the Summer Concert this Saturday 27 January at the Taupō Amphitheatre, Riverside Park.
Taupō will host one of New Zealand's most highly anticipated summer festivals and hear stellar performances from sensational International acts including Simple Minds, Texas, Collective Soul, Pseudo Echo and locals Sonorous.
There will be lots of traffic and pedestrian activity in and around the town centre. So that everybody stays "Alive and Kicking", please prepare for delays and plan your trip -
🚫 Redoubt Street is closed from 12pm Friday 26 January until 11pm on Saturday 27 January.
🛑 Tongariro Street will have a Stop-Go in place from 6pm to 8pm on Saturday 27 January to help concert-goers get home safely.
If you’re going:
🚗 "Don’t You (Forget About Me)" or the two car parks available for the Summer concert. Spaces are limited so consider the Summer Son and walking to the event.
🅿️ Tongariro North Domain opens for parking 9am Saturday. Northbound traffic should use this carpark with entry and exit via the northbound lane of Tongariro Street. There are several options you can take through the CBD (e.g. Ruapehu Street and Te Heuheu Street) to avoid the busy Spa Road roundabout area.
🅿️ Gates Park. Southbound traffic can access Gates Park car park north of the Control Gates Bridge or use street parking in the upper Spa Road area (Oruanui/Nukuhau/Runanga Streets) for easy access to Taupō Amphitheatre.
If you’re not going:
🎧 Say What You Want but town is going to be busy, so you might want to avoid the area during the busy times before and after the concert. Expect busy roads between 9am to 1pm and 5pm to 8pm on Saturday. Use the ETA to get around if you can.
🚫 Riverside Park dump station will be closed from 5pm Thursday 25 January to Sunday 28 January. Taupō is no Funky Town so please use the closest alternative sites located at Stag Park, Napier Road or Two Mile Bay Boat Ramp.
🛥️ We all know ‘Where The River Flows’ but the Lake Taupō Harbourmaster has advised the Waikato River has restrictions from 6am to 11pm on Saturday. No vessel may anchor or secure to the banks without the Harbourmaster’s authority. Nukuhau Marina and boat ramp access is normal.
🍹 Finally, if you’re not attending the concert or want to continue the good vibe afterwards, hit the "Waterfront" and enjoy a meal or a drink at Te Ātea, Kiwi’s Choice winner at the 2023 Beautiful Awards.
Thanks for your understanding and have a great long weekend everyone!
Haven't visited Taupō in a while?
We can't wait to welcome you back to the Taupō District over the long weekend. Taupō town centre has been transformed with an exciting pedestrian-friendly lake front development. This has changed how the traffic flows through the town centre. We've got a couple of tips for drivers to make your journey a little easier.
If you’re coming into Taupō from the north:
- Bypass the first Taupō entrance at Wairakei
- Continue on State Highway 1 using the Eastern Taupō Arterial highway (often called the ETA or Thermal Explorer Highway)
- Take any of the next three signposted exits into Taupō
If you get off SH1 and come into Taupō through Wairakei and over the Waikato River, there is no longer a through-road to take you from the Spa Road roundabout (beside Countdown) directly to the lakefront as you may have done in the past.
Getting to the lakefront:
- Turn left at the Spa Road roundabout on entry into town
- Continue to the new traffic lights on Spa Road
- Turn right into Titiraupenga Street
- Continue all the way to the lakefront and Lake Terrace
This is now the fastest and most efficient way to drive through town.
While you’re in Taupō, we hope you get a chance to check out the Te Ātea, the new award-winning lakefront space.
We hope you enjoy your stay in the Taupō District, and travel safe!
