For Anzac Day 2024, here's everything you need to know about services and parades around the Taupō District, council opening hours, road closures and the temporary relocation of the Tongariro Street bus stop.
This Anzac Day, we reflect on the sacrifices made by those in our armed forces who have served overseas. Everyone is invited to attend services and parades being held throughout the Taupō district on Thursday 25 April 2024 as follows:
TAUPŌ
All veterans, past and present service personnel, local youth groups & other community members that are wishing to take part in the parade, report to the parade marshal: Warrant Officer Class Two [WO2] Lawrence Colvin, Army Command School at 5.40am, at the rear carpark of the Great Lake Centre. Parade steps off 5.50am. Full service dress equivalent (including medals) to be worn.
All veterans, past and present service personnel, local youth groups & other community members that are wishing to take part in the parade, report to the parade marshal: Master Air Loadmaster [M/ALM] (Rtd) Donald Kerr, RNZAF, at 10.15am, at the rear carpark of the Great Lake Centre. Parade steps off 10.25am. Full service dress equivalent (including medals) to be worn.
SOUTHERN LAKE TAUPŌ
*All veterans, past and present service personnel, local youth groups & other community members that are wishing to take part in the parade, report to the parade marshal in Tūrangi town centre, to march to the Tokaanu-Tūrangi and Districts RSA for an 11am service.
MANGAKINO
Kerbside collections on Anzac Day
Kerbside collections will go ahead as normal on Anzac Day, Thursday 25 April. Please have your rubbish and recycling kerbside by the usual time of 7.30am.
Opening hours for council facilities on Anzac Day
For the safety of all involved the following road closures are in place between 5.40am to 11.45am on ANZAC Day:
🚫 Story Place eastbound lane from the Library to Tongariro Street
🚫 Tongariro Street northbound lane from Te Heu Heu Street to Horomātangi Street
🚫 Tongariro Street bus-stop temporarily relocated to Pāori Hapi Street (see map below)
