Voting papers for the upcoming Taupo-Kaingaroa ward by-election should be in your mailbox by Friday, May 9.
The by-election is being held to replace Keith Crate, who resigned in February due to ill health.
It is being conducted by postal ballot in a similar way to the October 2013 elections. The successful candidate will be elected using the first past the post electoral system.
Deputy electoral officer Tina Jakes said it was important for people to vote. This is an extra opportunity for people to get to decide who represents them around the council table, she said.
Voting papers should be sent out within the next week and the ballot will close at noon on May 23. Preliminary results should be available later that day, with a declaration of the successful candidate following on May 27.
If you have not received your voting papers by Friday, May 9 contact Taupō District Council on 07 376 0899.
The nominees for the vacancy are Doreen Blyth, Ian Chamberlain, Bernhard Chrustowski, Linda Hudson, Edna Isaacs, Andrew Leiataua, Rex Mincher, William Regan, Doug Simmons and Tristy Vadnjal.
