Basic bike mechanic workshop proves a hit
Derailleur, chain rings and presta valve are all common place in a cyclist’s vocabulary, but a little foreign to those not in the know.
As luck would have it a recent bicycle workshop gave some lucky attendees an opportunity to not just talk the talk when it comes to cycling, but to also walk the walk in the form of learning basic bike repair and maintenance practice.
Hosted at My Ride Taupō, with the support of Taupō District Council, attendees learnt about their bikes and basic skills. The workshop kicked off with road safety coordinator Sarah Wraight covering helmet and clothing safety followed by how to do a basic bike check prior to riding. The evening progressed on to other more in-depth learning, such as changing tyres and tubes under the watchful eye of owner Brendon Reynolds.
Sarah confirmed the night proved popular and was a huge success.
“The course started filling right off the bat with spaces filling fast. Those that attended really enjoyed the night, getting a lot out of it, she said.
“We hope to run more in future, so if you want to attend, get in quick when the next one rolls around!”
The Taupō District Council road safety team would like to thank My Ride Taupō for hosting the event and passing on plenty of tips to everyone on the night.
