A message from the Mayor

As we get ready to welcome friends, family, and visitors to the Taupō District during the holiday season, I am filled with gratitude for our vibrant, diverse community and all that you contribute to making our place special.

We are lucky to live in such a beautiful place, which was recently made official with us cleaning up at the 2023 Beautiful Awards! Taupō won the Supreme Towns & Cities Award, Tūrangi was runner-up in the Most Beautiful Small Town category, and the new Te Ātea space on the lakefront won the Kiwis’ Choice Award in the Places category. What a wonderful way to end the year.

Our communities should be proud of all the hard work and dedication that goes into making the district look as beautiful as it does, and I look forward to sharing it with all our visitors during the holidays.

We have seen a lot of projects come to fruition this year, such as the vibrant Taupō Town Centre Transformation, the amazing new airport terminal, and the beautiful new Te Kapua Park playground in Tūrangi, to name but a few, and I really look forward to seeing what 2024 brings.

On behalf of the councillors and team at Taupō District Council, I wish you all the very best over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Stay safe on the roads and out on the water, look after each other, and enjoy yourselves in our beautiful slice of paradise.
