Supercars gearing up for Track to Town
The ITM Taupō Super 440 is almost here and this Thursday 10 April sees the return of the hugely popular Track to Town.
This is a fantastic chance for the community to see the Supercars and meet drivers up close. The full fleet of cars will be leaving Taupō International Motorsport Park at 3.45pm heading down Broadlands Road and Spa Road to Tapuaeharuru. Meet the drivers, grab an autograph, get yourself some merch and get ready for an exciting weekend ahead. The cars will leave at 5pm to go back to the track, so you have plenty of opportunity to see them along the route. There will be some roads closed around Te Ātea / Tapuaeharuru on Roberts Street so everyone can safely view the cars and enjoy the event.
Plan ahead if you are travelling into town over Supercars and try to avoid the peak traffic times of early morning and from 4.30pm. There will be some roads closed to allow safe access to the event but not many. Broadlands Road from Centennial Drive to Off Road Highway will be closed so use the Park & Ride, the quickest way to Taupō International Motorsport Park. Buses run continuously from Kaimanawa Reserve and are free for valid ticket holders. Broadlands Road Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre will be open but you may find it easier to get in early or wait until after Supercars. Why not check out one of our other district transfer stations at www.taupo.govt.nz/rubbish.
Friday and Saturday sees the Pit Stop by the Lake open to all. Head down to Te Ātea – Tapuaeharuru early on Friday and Saturday next week for face-painting and to get some tasty takeaways from your local café or restaurant. Grab some popcorn from Starlight Cinema, ice-cream from Kona Kones or chocolate-dipped strawberries from Dripped and Drizzled and catch the family-friendly movies on the big screen with free showings of Cars on Friday and Turbo on Saturday, both at 5.30pm.
