Alcohol Control Bylaw
The new Alcohol Control Bylaw 2023 came into force on 16 October 2023 to reduce crime and disorder related to alcohol consumption. The bylaw prohibits the consumption and possession of alcohol in specified restricted public places, as outlined in the sections below.

Alcohol ban areas
A permanent alcohol ban applies to the Taupō town centre and Paetiki Shopping Centre 24 hours a day, seven days a week. An alcohol ban applies in the Mangakino town centre between 7pm Friday and 7am Sunday. These bans also apply to public holidays, as defined in the Holidays Act 2003.

Otumuheke Stream alcohol ban
A permanent alcohol ban is in place at Otumuheke Stream bathing area in Spa Park which applies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

New Year alcohol ban
Over the New Year period from 12noon December 27 until 7am January 4 there is an alcohol ban which covers the Taupō and Tūrangi Town Centres, all lakefront reserve areas in the Taupō District, and Hipapatua Reserve (Reid's Farm) in Taupō.
