Our rates challenge
Every three years, Taupō District Council develops a Long-term Plan that sets the direction and budget over a ten-year period. The next Long-term Plan will be developed for the 2024-34 period.
We will talk to the community more once the draft Long-term Plan is developed, in early 2024.
What do you want to see – for you, for your community, for future generations?
Our rates challenge
- Taupō District Council provides critical infrastructure, builds community projects, and brings revenue into the region. However, these projects cost ratepayers hard-earned money.
- These are difficult economic times for council and community, and challenges lie ahead as we plan for the upcoming financial year and beyond.
- Costs have increased across all of council’s business. With that in mind, we will try our best to balance affordability for you, our community, with maintaining the levels of service and investment that our district needs to thrive.
- We know people are struggling with the cost of living.
- We are doing what we can to keep costs down.
Big changes that may impact the way we work
- Affordable Water Reforms
- Resource Management Act overhaul
- Future for Local Government review
Iwi partnerships
- Taupō District Council values its relationships with Māori in the district.
- Strong iwi partnerships can help the council to deliver outcomes that exceed what it can deliver alone.
- An example of a strong iwi partnership is the historic Mana Whakahono ā Rohe partnership with Ngāti Tūrangitukua.
