Improvements to Paetiki shops and surrounding roads
Project overview
The Paetiki shops and surrounding roads are about to get a $200,000 makeover to make it a safer, more attractive and more user-friendly environment.
The work is set to start in early November and will feature a small number of new car parks, a redeveloped mobility car park, improved landscaping on the corner and visibility and safety improvements on Taharepa Road. The project was budgeted for in the Long-term Plan after a submission asking for improvements to the area.
There will be some disruption to traffic and pedestrians while the work takes place. Please drive carefully in this area to keep our contractors and community safe while this work is carried out.
The work will take a few weeks and is scheduled to be completed by the end of November, weather permitting.

Project updates
DECEMBER 4, 2020
Contractors have finished their makeover of the Paetiki shopping area with just planting to go in the new garden area.
The work included an upgraded mobility carpark, four new carparks outside Supervalue Paetiki, the concreting of the roundabout, pedestrian refuge islands on Taharepa Road, new kerbing and the redevelopment of the corner by the shops to include landscaping and seating.
The area is now open without restriction for traffic and pedestrians.
Our parks and reserves team will now plant the garden area with natives to create a green space outside the shops.
NOVEMBER 20, 2020
Work on the upgrade of the Paetiki shops intersection is progressing well, with contractors Camex expected to have completed the work by the end of the month.
Camex has this week completed kerbing work and finished the pavement for the new car parks outside the SuperValue Paetiki. Asphalt for the car parks was expected to be laid today, Friday November 20.
Following today’s work, only the construction of the pedestrian refuge islands on Taharepa Road and landscaping of the new garden and seating area on the corner will need to be completed before the project is finished.
