Wharewaka walkway extension
Work has been completed at Wharewaka's lakefront, with the new path, road and timber barrier all finished.
Trees have also been planted around the reserve to enhance the area. This work was scheduled for autumn following the completion of the path in December 2016 as it is regarded as the best time for planting due to adequate rainfall.
The new path connects the route between Wharewaka and Five Mile Bay. Previously there was a gap in the shared path between the two locations. The new shared path is 2.5 metres wide and caters to both pedestrians and cyclists. A sealed road and car parking area have also been created. The low timber barrier was installed to separate vehicles and pedestrians to make it safer.
Pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles can now access the area.
