New lease for Youthtown facilities at AC Park

Introduction

The council wants to know what the community thinks about an application we have received from Youthtown Taupō for a new lease of an extended area (approximately 1113 square metres) around their existing building on the edge of the car park at the AC Baths.

The lease area is located on the Armed Constabulary Park, which is a recreation reserve subject to the Reserves Act 1977.

The purpose of the lease is to enable Youthtown to continue to provide their programmes for Taupō children and young people from their site adjoining the AC Baths carpark.

Youthtown aims to inspire and promote life-skills learning, working collaboratively, understanding, and building resilience and unlocking potential. They have had a lease in this location since 2008 and the new lease will allow them to continue operating there until 2050. The new lease will also have extra space to establish a new basketball half court, as well as set up a separate administration office so the entire existing building is available for student programmes. There will also be space for a small container unit for equipment storage.

Submissions

Submissions closed at 4.30pm on Monday 2 May 2022.

Submitters may request to be heard in support of their submission or objection, and council will full give consideration to every objection or submission received before deciding whether to grant the lease.

What happens with my feedback?

When you make a submission you will be given the option on whether you want to present your view to the Council in person. If you do, we will book a speaking time for you at the public meeting at 1pm on 7 June 2022.

You will be given up to 5 minutes to present your submission and answer any questions. The hearing will take place in accordance with the current Covid traffic light/guidelines. If we are not able to hold an in-person hearing, we will proceed with a virtual hearing. Council will consider all submissions, regardless of whether you wish to speak in person or not.

Following deliberations there will be a final decision on the granting of the new lease and we will communicate the outcome to you. Please note: all submissions will be made available to the public on the Council website in accordance with our Privacy Statement.
